Sustainable Produce
Third Way Farm is being crafted around the principles of permaculture, and we uphold "organic" and/or sustainable methods of agriculture in all aspects of our work. We grow vegetables, herbs, and fruit on a 2-acre plot, where our cultivation seeks to build and improve our soil over time. Our beds exhibit a rich diversity of life, as we design polycultures of various vegetables, herbs, and flowers that work together to manage pests, disease, water and soil nutrients. In addition, our production gardens and the farm at large are integrated with habitats for beneficial insects and pollinators to help promote a healthy farm ecology. Our product lineup includes wide range of common and not-so-common vegetables and herbs, as we select varieties for exquisite beauty, taste, and nutrition. We seek to highlight heirloom vegetable varieties as much as possible, featuring them in everything from our fantastic heirloom tomato lineup to our full-flavored and nutrient-dense lettuce mixes. We are fortunate to be able to extend our growing season through the use of a movable high tunnel (greenhouse), in which we grow salad greens and other cold-hardy vegetables through the winter and early spring.

Micro Greens
Third Way Farm micro greens are a lovely addition to salads, a delicious and beautiful garnish for sandwiches and soups, and they are about the most nutrient-dense product we grow! We provide micro greens year round, utilizing indoor grow-light systems to maintain production through winter. We are growing more than 20 varieties, but some of our favorites are marigolds, mustard, amaranth, peas, scallions, radishes, and basil. Most of our micros go to the restaurants we supply, but they are available to CSA customers as well.

Pasture-Raised Eggs

Chickens at TWF are holistically managed to ensure delicious and ultra-nutritious eggs, a healthy and happy life for the birds, and enhanced fertility for our pastures and vegetable beds. Using mobile chicken coops, we give the chickens daily access to fresh pasture, boosting their diet with bugs and native plants, and allowing them to spread their manure naturally across our farm. We supplement their diet with locally sourced grain feed, as well as lots of scraps from our vegetable production.
Third Way Farm eggs are available for retail sale at our farmers’ markets and through our CSA, and for 2019 our price is $6 per dozen. We also wholesale our eggs to many of our restaurant clients.

Pork

At Third Way Farm, we raise heritage-breed pigs in an intensively managed, rotational system through both pasture and woodlands. Our pigs are fed a diet of locally sourced grain, barley, and sunflower seeds, along with key supplements of locally produced whey and plenty of our own vegetable scraps. We use Smuckers Meats in Lancaster, PA as our butcher, and we have an abundance of nutritionally dense pork products available for purchase through direct, on-farm sales, our farmer's market, CSA, and through out local restaurant customers.

Flowers
Our flowers serve two purposes - to attract native pollinators to our fields and to bring beauty into our customers homes. Flowers are available as an add-on to CSA shares and at market. This is another new project and we are so excited to see what this season brings.
